John Everett Millais’ “Ophelia,” 1872

Oil on canvas.

The look on his subject’s face is amazing.  This is one of the best paintings I’ve ever seen.  Millais reminds me of John William Waterhouse.

The full painting is at top; a detail of Ophelia’s face is below it.
